Vulnerability Assessment Landscape Lease Islands

The years 2015 and 2016 are listed by the World Meteorological Organization as the hottest years in the last hundred years. Extreme weather events, floods and landslides are becoming more frequent. The risks of climate change and disasters are faced by all levels of society in Ambon and Lease islands; but the communities that will most likely feel the impact are: farmers, fishermen, and the urban poor. The impacts of climate change can reduce development outcomes, threaten food security, and increase poverty.

The Ambon and Lease Islands are located in one landscape, bound by the same waters. Hence their vulnerability and risk assessment need to be conducted in an integrated perspective. Likewise, problem solving needs to be done alongside administrative boundaries. The strategic value of the region in Maluku Province also gives a strong reason for the study.

This vulnerability and climate risk assessment is intended to provide a solid foundation for developing climate change adaptation strategies and toughness in Ambon and the Lease islands. At the same time as input for regional development planning that is more adaptive to climate change. This review adapts the methodology used by the Ministry of Environment in
Climate Change Risk and Adaptation Assessment (KRAPI) 2012. The review process is conducted through a workshop which is a consultation forum with local stakeholders and experts in each field.

The field chosen in this study refers to the similarity of the character of Ambon Island and the Lease Islands as a unity of landscapes. Concerning the concept of thought, the field of study focused on the field of catching fisheries, clean water, coastal and disaster relief fields.

The gradual review process begins with reading historical data on climate and disaster, reading climate projections, estimating climate change impacts, choosing strategic areas that need adaptation, threat analysis, vulnerability analysis, risk analysis, risk synthesis and collecting adaptation options.
Approach to Analysis of threats, vulnerabilities and risks is done through spatial data processing, referring to indicators of each component agreed upon in the workshop. If limitations are found in terms of availability and access to data, adjustments are made using representative data representation indicators.
The main outcomes of this study are a map of the spread of threats, vulnerabilities and risks to the selected areas. Other results are descriptions of the impact chains and risk factors faced by each selected sector; there is also a combination of risk maps from selected fields.

In the final section, the report includes temporary recommendations for each adaptation strategy and action plan. Further studies and consultations are needed to detail specific strategies and action options for adaptation at specific locations.
